I would like to invite you to consider an opportunity that could deepen your faith and fulfill a deep-seated desire to meet the bible on its own terrain. For two thousand years Christians have been making pilgrimage to the Holy Land. When I conducted my doctoral research I studied the journals of those earliest pilgrims as they recorded their experiences. These faithful people journeyed not only to see, but to encounter the land of the biblical story. Places like Jerusalem, Galilee, the Jordan River, Mt. Carmel, and so many others became more than mere names as they took a firm place in the mind’s eye and the pilgrim’s own story. They journeyed in the company of others whose earnest desire was to deepen their faith and understanding.
In January of 2010 I will be leading a group to Israel and Jordan. We will travel from Charlotte for twelve days. The itinerary will take us many places with names you know, but they will become places you know and experiences you will share with fellow travelers. A Spiritual and Educational Tour
of The Holy Land & Jordan
We would like to invite you to join us in April 2010 as we take a spiritual and educational journey to Israel and Jordan. For thirteen days, we will visit the lands of the Bible that we have studied in Church since we were young, and a region that we read about in the newspapers almost every day. We first visited the Holy Land in 1985 as part of Sara’s seminary training, and it was one of the most educational and spiritually enriching journeys we have ever taken. We visited the region again in 2009, and as we traveled we knew this was an experience we wanted to share with others. On our journey we will visit sites that are important to the Christian tradition, and Islam and the Jewish tradition.
Spanning literally thousands of years of history from the ancient city of Jericho and Mt. Nebo to Bethlehem and modern Jerusalem, we will immerse ourselves in this fascinating region. In addition, we are working to arrange visits with Presbyterians working in the region, and hope to worship with a local Christian congregation while in Jordan. We hope this journey will be unlike any other you may have taken, and we hope you will prayerfully consider coming with us. Our goal is to make this one of the most meaningful trips you will ever take.
