EGYPT & ISRAEL

I waited 56 years to make my first visit to the Holy Land. Seeing the land of the Bible was an experience I will never forget.

I am going again, and I want you to go with me. We leave March 15 and return March 26. We will see not only Israel but also will tour Egypt for three days and see the pyramids and Nile River valley and Mt. Sinai.

Dr. Mike Edens is our seminary's expert in Islamic studies. He and his wife, Madelyn, will join us for this trip and help us understand Egypt, where they lived for 17 years, as well as customs throughout the Holy Land.

My experience in the Holy Land is slight, as I have already mentioned. But seeing the biblical sites has so enriched my own understanding of the stories of the Bible that I want to try to help connect the geography we will see with the theology which we embrace.

This trip is designed to give you the most sight-seeing for your money. We will hit the road early each day with exciting forays to Galilee, Masada, the Jordan River, and many other places familiar to us through our scriptures. You will stand in the streets of Old Jerusalem, walk through the gardens near the old city, and see the tombs of the prophets in the Kidron Valley.

Telling the Truth has been communicating the good news of the Gospel, in various media, for forty years.

Having led numerous groups on tours of the Holy Land, Jill and I are convinced that walking where Jesus walked, seeing what He saw, and recognizing the places He referred to in His teaching all make the Bible come alive in unforgettable ways. Opportunities to spend time with people of similar interests always enhance travel experiences, and on-site teaching of relevant Scriptures enrich and enlarge spiritual insight and life.

For nearly two thousand years, Christians have been making pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I have studied the journals of those earliest pilgrims as they recorded their experiences. These faithful people journeyed not simply to see sites but to encounter the land of the biblical story that would shape their faith in Christ. Places like Jerusalem, Galilee, the Jordan River, Mt. Carmel, and so many others became more than mere names as they took a firm place in the mind's eye and the pilgrim's own story. They journeyed in the company of others whose earnest desire was to deepen their faith and understanding.

In February of 2011, I will be leading a group to Israel. Travelling from Norfolk for ten days, our itinerary will take us to those places of greatest meaning for our faith. We will study, worship, dialogue, and encounter one another in faith. If you would like to consider this special journey, let me encourage you to pray and talk with me about it.
